Hmmm, I'd never noticed the "v4l" XFree module before... I did some digging
on the xfree86.org and came up with this:

http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/v4l.4.html

It seems that this would not be needed for Myth, but rather for applications
like Xawtv, which basically connect the V4L card to an Xv port.  My
interpretation is that the 'v4l' module is simply a convenience mechanism to
tie V4L input to Xv output.
