Please give me a reason. I started it with the mythtv player, but I've
switched to mplayer. I'll give you my reasons:
-It's not a real dependency, you'll jut lose the preview, that's all, but
the app itself will work anway. and this app is about database setup. Having
mplayer is an option that sweetens the user experience. If you want, we can
setup a setting to simply also take out the debugging messages that will
appear saying that mplayer was unable to start.
-The mythtv app as far as I know is about recording, slow for doing this,
setup channels is about live TV. That was was quite uncomfortable for doing
this job.
-To use the other TV app, to get equivalent functionallity will be a lot
harder, also more intrussive to the libs/libmythtv code. And it makes no
sense here, it's a setup app. My goal here is to make easier the setup
looking forward to digital channels, not to spent time modifing a tv app,
something that I don't know, just to skip something that is widely
available. Note that I'm new on c++, QT and myth libraries. What is there
was already a hard job for me.
-In fact, mythchannels does not add dependencies, really what it does is
removing them. With it, XMLTV becomes an option, not a real dependency. On
the other hand, DVB will have the listings on air so...
-Mplayer is far ahead supporting digital options, such as ac3 sound, choice
of audio pids, subtitling, etc... That will be quite useful when testing the
DVB and working with the new stuff, if mplayer does, mythtv should do as
well.... once we get there: At this point maybe the mythtv player will be
more than enough and then we can take out mplayer, but in the meantime...
As a summary, to work with the current tv app is right now not possible at
this point, unless I have to spent weeks working on it, which makes no sense
now to me, I do vision other priorities.
Tell me if I'm wrong, if there is a simple way for doing this, just let me
know
