Whether you need the ati.2 modules for Xv support depends on the version of
X that you are running, and the particular card and revision that you have.
Gatos generally gets support for new cards first, but this support (for Xv
and other standard features) is eventually folded into XFree86 proper.
In cases where updates to the DRM kernel modules are required in order to
support newer hardware, these are found in the gatos drm_kernel modules.

The multimedia aspects of the all-in-wonder cards (tuner, capture, etc.) are
supported only by gatos, using the "km" modules.
