Space and Enter have been standardized throughout, I am pretty sure.

I don't mind the idea of a time/Activity area, but I do worry about
clutter. If it can be integrated nicely into the system, then by all
means...even as an optional component, it might be nice.

If you press 'e' while watch a video, you enter into the commercial
editor. Left and right moves you left and right on the time line, up and
down change the increments left and right jumps and space/enter enters a
cut and brings up the cut menu. I can do a show in about two minutes,
so, sometimes it is worth it, others not...but still it is kind of cool.
It doesn't cut out the commercials yet, but automagically skips them.
