[mythtv] Hardware configuration

ok, i'm hooking up the this thread because i have a similar question...

i have a rather small barebone system, a shuttle sv25 with a celeron 1200, 512 
mb ram and a ati card (which isn't supported and will be replaced by a 
hauppauge wintv go (or is there an alternative at this price, maybe with a 
remote control? how much more costs the one with the rc?)).
the only thing i wanna use this system for is recording and timeshifting, so 
use it instead of a vcr or use it to stop the current show for a few minutes 
(ask why? anyone with a 10 month old son knows why ;-) )... so i don't need 
simoultanious record/playback or fancy stuff like that.
will this machine be fast enough to accomplish that? will a standard tv-card 
do?
