[mythtv] problems on first run...

hi all...

i'd really like to get mythtv working, but i'm experiencing some annoying
problems that i can't get rid of...

first my configuration:

i'm using a ati all-in-wonder pro with the gatos ati.2 drivers, everything
works fine with xawtv and gatos' avview, alsa is used for the sound, so it
shouldn't be a hardware or configuration issue. the system runs on gentoo
with kernel 2.4.19, i installed mythtv with the ebuild that's available in
the faq, it installed without problems. i'm living in germany so i'm using
xmltv with tv_grab_de.

the versions are:
mythtv-0.7
xmltv-0.5.2

so much for the basics. i configured and filled the database that is needed,
changed the login-data in mysql.txt, edited settings.txt so that it uses
tv_grab_de, changed the settings to PAL and europe_west and ran setup.

at first i got this error when he was trying to configure the channel source:

<snip>
Configuring channel source #1
mythsetup will now run tv_grab_de --configure

--------------- Start of XMLTV output ---------------
sh: tv_grab_de--configure: command not found
---------------- End of XMLTV output ----------------
</snip>

seems to be an error in the setup-program (missing space before --configure),
when i call tv_grab_de --configure by hand i get:

<snip>
mars mythtv # tv_grab_de --configure
no configuration necessary
</snip>

so the error shouldn't be a problem i guess...

setup finished fine and it told me to run mythfilldatabase --manual.

calling it ends in this output:

<snip>
mars mythtv # mythfilldatabase --manual
###
### Running in manual channel configuration mode.
### This will ask you questions about every channel.
###
----------------- Start of XMLTV output -----------------
downloading listings: ##################################################
------------------ End of XMLTV output ------------------
Segmentation fault
mars mythtv #
</snip>

is there something like a debug mode that can tell me why it segfaults?
what can i do to trace the error?

because of this some of the other programs don't work either, when i call
mythepg i get this:

<snip>
mars mythtv # mythepg
You don't have any channels defined in the database
This isn't going to work.
Segmentation fault
</snip>

the interesting thing is that it segfaults, too...

mythfrontend seems to work, mythtv too, but i'm not getting any tv output,
which could be because of the missing channel definitions...

has anyone else here had problems like these? maybe someone running gentoo? or
someone from germany here who had the same problems maybe due to bad output
from tv_grab_de?
i'd really like to get this working...

bye, stephan
