is a little different on some of the XV settings.  Mine was too dark 
doing play back from a different Mythbox on to my desktop, so I just
adjusted the XV attributes as part of the startup script that
fires up mythfrontend.

ex:
xvattr -a XV_CONTRAST -v 100 -p 70
