I'm running it in 2.4.23 (with lowlatency and preempt patch) with no
problems.

I haven't looked into it - I tried the 2.6 kernel a couple of weeks ago
and the performance of MythTV was pretty abysmal (bttv card, software
encoding/decoding on an Athlon XP 2000+, running 2.4.23 with lowlatency
and preempt patches works well, as soon as I put 2.6 on then live TV was
virtually unwatchable). So I immediately backed off again to the working
kernel.

Do people running MythTV use hyperthreaded processors? I've never really
thought about it but it would seem to me that if you're going to spend
that money then you should probably get a low power system and a PVR card.

I run the ck preempt and lowlatency patches for the 2.4 kernel and there
is a marked improvement over unpatched 2.4. I believe the 2.6 preempt
stuff works in a different way to the ck patches, but I don't know the
specifics of it.

I've had the Nvidia drivers working on the 2.6.0-test3 kernel at work for
months with no problem - there is a patch somewhere to apply to the stock
closed-source drivers.
