Yes, sure.  I just wanted to try it after removing all my old position 
maps from the DB - since they might in fact be the problem? 

The stutter is consistent with what happens when the audio rate doesn't 
match with what the sound card is expecting.  I have actually tweaked 
the pre-buffering down to a very low value and this may well be 
contributing to the problem.  I will revert back to vanilla cvs before 
commenting further (although tweaking this does make channel changing 
somewhat faster)
