Rebate:  Marketing ploy to get you into a store by showing a really low
price in advertising only to find out that you have to pay the full
price initially (including taxes) in the hopes that they will return the
mentioned payback within a reasonable amount of time, if ever.

Just my $.02, I personally despise them.  But I got a 3 year warranty as
opposed to a 1 year if I had bought the OEM version for the same price
after rebate.
