I really won't care about it playing DVDs until playback quality in linux
equals that of my standalone player.. Wouldn't mind having support for it,
of course, it's just that I won't be writing it =)

Yeah, it's just using an extremely simple little protocol. Just
query/response with with easily parseable lists of strings over the wire..
No real reason for anything complicated.
