Comment (by Peter Bennett):

 Selecting playback profile OpenMAX Normal and audio device ALSA:Default
 works well with these later versions of Raspbian. The OpenGL OSD causes
 severe problems and the IEC device for digital audio no longer exists.

 I will look into it further to see what can be done to get it all working
 normally again.
