 Interesting. There is no doubt, however, that disabling LCDd service and
 unticking the LCD in the frontend settings completely prevents this
 problem from happening.

 In fact you don't need to disable or even stop the LCD service - just
 unticking the option in Mythfrontend is enough to prevent the problem.

 This all started around 0.27. Before that playback and the LCD screen
 worked fine for years.
