 You are right, I am not an expert on this. I am just doing my best :)

 It looks like MythTV searches the http_proxy environment and uses whatever
 it finds as application proxy. It seems a mistake to use that for
 listening. It is valid to use that for http downloads. This code has been
 there for a long time, so I am reluctant to mess with it. I will consult
 the other MythTV developers to see whether that should be removed from the
 listen logic.
