 On a Debian GNU/Linux machine, I run mythfrontend and mythbackend.  I want
 to store recordings on 3 reiserfs filesystems (each of which is a complete
 HDD) which are mounted at α/mythdata0,  α/mythdata1, and  α/mythdata2.

 In the first setup, my default storage group consisted of a single
 directory:  α/mythdata0/recordings.  In mythfrontend, Information Center
 ->  System Status -> Machine Status reports

 466 GB total, 268 GB used, 198 GB (or 43%) free.
 89 hours and 30 minutes remaining, using your average rate of 5120 kb/sec
 89 hours remaining, using your maximum rate of 5174 kb/sec

 that's OK by me.

 In the second setup, my default storage group consisted of 2 directories:
 α/mythdata0/recordings, and α/mythdata1/recordings.  In mythfrontend,
 Information Center ->  System Status -> Machine Status reports

 466 GB total, 268 GB used, 198 GB (or 43%) free.

 MythTV Drive #2:
 Directory:
  hyatt1:α/mythdata1/recordings
 149 GB total, 33 MB used, 149 GB (or 100%) free.
 67 hours and 30 minutes remaining, using your average rate of 5120 kb/sec
 66 hours and 30 minutes remaining, using your maximum rate of 5174 kb/sec
 Total Disk Space:
 615 GB total, 268 GB used, 347 GB (or 56%) free.
 157 hours and 45 minutes remaining, using your average rate of 5120 kb/sec
 155 hours and 30 minutes remaining, using your maximum rate of 5174 kb/sec

 that's OK by me, provided that the previously undefined term:  "MythTV
 Drive", is
 a synonym for "a directory in the default storage group".

 In the third setup, my default storage group consisted of 3 directories:
 α/mythdata0/recordings, α/mythdata1/recordings, and
 α/mythdata2/recordings.  In mythfrontend, Information Center ->  System
 Status -> Machine Status reports

 and that is completely unacceptable.  I added 149 GB of capacity to the
 default storage group and mythfrontend reports that the total disk space
 did not grow at all.  MythTV seems unaware of the directory that I added
 to the default storage group.  (I know from the results of other tests
 that the capacity of α/mythdata2/recordings is 149 GB.)  Second, since the
 description of MythTV Drive #2 says that it has 2 directories, my
 hypothesis that "MythTV Drive" is a synonym for "a directory in the
 default storage group" must be incorrect.
