 Sorry for the delay, Robert, I haven't forgotten about it. I was running
 the remote FE with -v important,general,socket and deleted and
 redownloaded metadata but the problem didn't appear again. I will try now
 with -v network both on the MB that gets stuck and the remote FE. (The
 time difference, though is a problem: It's 11:50 am here.)
