 Just a note as I had a similar problem and I resolved it by deleting all
 my subscriptions and cache, must have been a corrupted item or a bug
 caused by my subscription.
 but now it doesn't hang when I enter the News Plugin.

 Note I do get a problem when I select an article the browser crashes but
 possibly another problem
