 I found the bug!

 It came from rev23525

 There is a config value "WORDS_ENDIAN" which isn't set anymore!
 I replaced them with "#if HAVE_BIGENDIAN" (not #ifdef) and
 I recompiled release-0.23-fixes on a Mac-OSX-ppc:

 Sounds good :)

 pS: makes me wonder that this didn't broke more than this 8)
