 The copy of the DVD on my hard drive has the protection removed.
 Interstingly it fails to properly render the DVD menu in the same way as
 the original disc with the copy protection intact.

 It seems like the issue is to verify that the copy on the hard drive does
 have copy protection removed and is a valid format. I can provide a mythtv
 log of the hard drive copy failing if that helps. Is there another
 recommendation? I know vlc plays the disc copy fine, but that's a
 different program and thus minimal help at best.

 With the continued effort to improving the Internal player for DVD
 playback, is this worth investigating further?
