Log:

Make background an optional element for MythUITextEdit, and also make sure all elements are NULLed if a required element is missing. Some of the bugs I was seeing in text edits were due to a missing background, but since we didn't NULL the m_Text and m_cursorImage the text edits still sort of functioned.
