Log:

Seems to fix the issue where sometimes AC3 audio would misbehave on playback.
The issue appeared to be that passthru was incorrectly seen as active during
the initial startup as it was never initialized properly, and the ALSA drivers
rejected the configuration, and then things just got worse.  So far, I have 
not been able to reproduce the issue with this being initialized correctly.

There still seems to be another player startup issue in play however, causing
the frontend to just freeze while waiting for pulseaudio to be disabled.
