 I'm also encountering this problem after I upgraded to a recent .23-rc2
 build from  .21-fixes.

 Backend: Freescale based PowerPC w/o Altivec (Big Endian) running Debian
 Linux using mythtv 0.23~rc2-0.3 packages from debian-multimedia.org.
