 OK, updated to r21371 and applied the patch. I saw the following in the
 log:

 ankh at ted /var/log/mythtv $ cat mythbackend.log | grep "No data"
 2009-08-31 12:47:36.844 DevRdB(/dev/dvb/adapter100/frontend0) Error: No
 data seen for 2505 msecs.

 I watched the recording at around the time the message was logged and,
 yes, there does appear to be a small 'gap' in the recording, but it
 continues to record (& playback) after the interruption in the stream.
 Good!

 I'll leave my system on r21371 + patch for a few more days and report back
 any issues.

 BTW, still on Linux 2.6.28-gentoo-r6 from previous testing.
