Comment:

 (In [21513]) Prevent a frontend segfault if certain protocol queries fail
 and return unexpected results. This does things a little differently from
 the supplied patch from Jeff Lu by creating a common error response which
 SendReceiveStringlist() will look for and handle accordingly. Closes #6588
