 There is a check when exiting mythtv-setup:

 Cannot create a file /mnt/store/.test - directory is not writable?

 Do you want to fix this problem?

 but if the read-only fault occurs later then you are stuffed. Having
 something popup when attempting to watch Live TV is difficult (and it does
 nothing for scheduled recordings). I think a popup would require enhancing
 the protocol to add a new status. This will not be happening in 0.21.
