 Thanks for the tip about hte patch.
 I stopped the backend, rebuilt mythtv after applying the patch and copied
 libmythtv in place.
 After a start of the backend I see no errors being logged because of this
 patch (I have `important` in the -v options).
 I DO think though that the patch from #5140 is a good idea and this way of
 error checking should be applied genereously and generally.
