 I mis-read the ticket the first time around and therefore misunderstood
 the problem.

 I've attached a patch with the simplest solution for this specific
 problem. It's not perfect but should work in most cases. Combined with
 planned improvements to error catching elsewhere it should mean that the
 end user only sees the error when a genuine grabber failure has occurred.
