Comment:

 1. MythTV has OS X native video output code (videoout_quartz.cpp). All the
 X11 output is meant to be disabled.

 2. The frontend first tires to connect to a database an backend on
 localhost (127.0.0.1). Running Console.app will show all the cannot
 connect error. After several minutes of trying, it should pop up the
 dialog box allowing you to enter the backend't IP address. If you don't
 want to wait this long, edit ~/.mythtv/mysql.txt before starting up
 !MythFrontend.app
