 I also have this issue.  I have 3 ivtv tuners, one in the master backend
 server and two in a slave server.  The observations I have made is that
 when it switches to a new ring buffer at the beginning of the next
 program, the frontend fails to sync, in that it is waiting for prebuffer
 messages which may not be showing up.  I have checked to see that the
 ringbuffer file exists, and it does, and can be played with mplayer.  If I
 leave the frontend alone (in the hung state), and wait for the next show
 transition, it actually recovers and starts playing again.  I hope this
 rings a bell with somebody, but it seems to be a simple problem.  Just not
 simple to find it...
