 Glad the workaround was successful.

 Looking closer at your debug output, there was another error line:

 unsupported packet type: 3
 2007-08-19 22:40:35.847 Cannot find (ping) database host...
 }}}
 We call 'ping -t 3 -c 1 host', but it looks like -t isn't supported by
 your ping command. Could you possibly provide the output from ping --help,
 or man ping? And maybe summarise the OS or toolset?
