 Could signal monitoring be implemented by checking the file size of the
 recording?
 A zero byte file means the recording never started.
 If the file size stops growing that means the recording must have stopped.
 Ocasionaly checks the file size durring the recording process. If the file
 size stops growing then you know that the signal has stopped.
 Not sure if this would work, just my 2 cents...
