 TimJordan, you seem to be experiencing the classic symptoms of #774.

 John Whitear, you are experiencing something else entirely. Can you e-mail
 me match backend and frontend logs with 'mythbackend -v record,channel'
 and 'mythfrontend -v playback' (repeating the same procedure), using the
 latest SVN? I don't know if this is described by one of the existing
 tickets like #971, or is something new. Looking at those logs might help.
